Anthony Martial is ready for the return of club action after an extended international break.
The Frenchman has been used sparingly this season due to three separate injuries and fitness concerns but in the time that he has played, he has looked very impressive.
Martial has racked up four goals and two assists in just 292 minutes on the pitch and three starts in all competitions. Erik ten Hag will be relying significantly more on the 27-year-old due to Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit, which leaves just Martial and Marcus Rashford as the only out-and-out strikers available in the squad.
During the World Cup, Ten Hag took his squad to Spain to partake in a training camp to maintain fitness. United played two friendlies against Cadiz and Real Betis and whilst both games ended in defeat, it provided a great chance for Martial to get back on the pitch, as well as give minutes to younger players.
Martial’s fitness improved during Spain camp
United’s No.9 has insisted the trip has had a positive impact when talking to the MU website, saying: “We’ve put in a lot of good work and it has been a bit like pre-season for us. We’ve worked on fitness training and getting into top shape physically, and I’ve benefited from that a lot personally.”
