No injury concerns for Raphael Varane after late substitution in World Cup final

Manchester United fans feared the worst when Raphael Varane went down late on in the World Cup final. Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez was warming up – despite not coming on – and helped his club teammate back onto his feet.

According to the Manchester Evening News, France defender Raphael Varane was only fatigued when he came off after going down in the 13th minute of extra time.

The final went to penalties and unfortunately for Varane, Argentina ran out 4-2 winners in the shootout after one of the best World Cup finals of all-time.

Varane played a key role in France’s route to the final, having started six of France’s seven games in Qatar, and United fans will be happy to know he will return from the World Cup injury free.

Both Varane and Martinez will have this week off before returning to Manchester after reaching the final, and they will hopefully return to action for United at Wolves on New Year’s Eve.

They two centre-backs have formed formed a formidable partnership in the heart of Erik ten Hag’s defence this season and the Frenchman has a worrying track record for injuries, which doesn’t bode well after a busy month in Qatar.

The MEN also reports that Ten Hag is already putting United players through a tough training regime, with the players arrived at 8.30am for training on Sunday morning and a number of players didn’t leave until 3pm.

Let’s hope they are raring to go on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup against Burnley.
