Raphael Varane risks missing World Cup final after picking up illness

Manchester United’s Raphael Varane may be a doubt for Sunday’s World Cup final after picking up an infection.

Adrien Rabiot and Dayot Upamecano missed Wednesday’s semi-final against Morocco due to the players picking up a viral infection that is working its way through France’s camp.

Now, according to L’ Equipe, Varane and his fellow centre-back, Ibrahima Konate of Liverpool are showing mild symptoms of the sickness.

Les Bleus staff will be monitoring the situation carefully in the coming hours and there is a training session scheduled for today at 6 pm, so it will be worth monitoring whether the defenders are present or if they will be rested and instead, train tomorrow.

Two Reds have made the World Cup final

The final is against Argentina on Sunday at 3 pm. As well as Varane, United’s Lisandro Martinez will likely feature, meaning the club are guaranteed to have a world champion return to Carrington.

Hopefully, the Frenchman makes a swift recovery as he is invaluable to Didier Deschamps’ side.
