Tyson Fury confirms Man United legend Wayne Rooney will join training camp

Boxing superstar Tyson Fury has surprisingly confirmed that Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney will be part of his preparations for his highly anticipated bout with Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury, who comfortably beat Derek Chisora recently, is looking to unify the heavyweight division by taking out Usyk after the Ukrainian star won both of his fights against Anthony Joshua.

Rooney has been spotted at numerous fighting events over the years and he’s even been involved in some WWE scripts but according to Fury, he’s going to delve deeper into the business over the next couple of months.

A date for the fight between Fury and Usyk has not been confirmed yet but it’s believed that the mouthwatering bout will take place early next year, with late February a possibility.

Speaking recently, Fury shockingly stated that Rooney will be part of the team during the pre-fight camp, claiming the record United and England goalscorer will join the team for four weeks.

“I spoke to Wayne and he’s well up for it,” Fury is quoted as saying by ESPN. “We’re going to bring Wayne in for preparation for Oleksandr Usyk. No [it’s not a joke], very serious. He’s going to come into camp for about four weeks to help me.”

SN’s verdict…
Depending on when the fight takes place, it’s difficult to imagine that Rooney will be available to help train Fury for four whole weeks.

Rooney is the manager of DC United and the MLS season kicks off at the end of February, meaning he will miss the entirety of his side’s pre-season if he’s in a four-week-long camp with Fury.
