Marcus Rashford reflects to World Cup heartache

England are out of the World Cup and the only questions that can be had about Marcus Rashford are whether he should have started more games. From a Manchester United perspective, we’re happy with the idea that he should be fresh when he returns for domestic action.

Marcus Rashford has reacted to England’s heartache on Twitter, writing: “The last few weeks have been a rollercoaster of emotions, each and every one of our team gave everything we had to be ready for what was thrown at us, we got close, but not close enough. I’ll make a promise that we will come again! Thank you for the unconditional support.”

The Three Lions suffered a familiar major tournament fate, but the margins have rarely been so fine. It’s the hope that kills England fans and players alike.

Rashford needs to quickly shift his focus back to Manchester United because there is still a lot to play for domestically this season. On top of that, he looks back to his best, with his form at club level replicated for his country at the World Cup.

He didn’t disappoint at the the World Cup, scoring three goals in the tournament whilst playing a bit-part role under Gareth Southgate.

Erik ten Hag deserves credit for this because a lot of United’s players performed well at the World Cup, after going into the tournament on the back of improved performances for their club. They believe in themselves again and it’s great to see.
