Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United sent scouts to watch Portugal star

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano believes Manchester United have sent scouts to watch Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, who took Cristiano Ronaldo’s place in the Portugal team at the World Cup this winter.

“Manchester United are considering many options, we know about Cody Gakpo but there are also others,” Romano told Caught Offside. “They are still in internal discussions to decide the best option and then they will proceed. They had their scouts watch Goncalo Ramos with Benfica many times, but the same happened with other clubs.”

Portugal crashed out of the World Cup earlier this week after losing against Morocco in the quarter-finals, who are on an incredible run after knocking out Belgium and Spain in the previous knockout rounds.

That means players like Ronaldo and Joao Felix, who face uncertain futures, can now turn their attention on transfers because they won’t be going all the way in Qatar.

Another player likely to attract lots of attention in the coming weeks is Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos. The Portuguese striker was chosen to start over Ronaldo in the 6-1 win over Switzerland and scored a hat-trick to keep his place in the team for the defeat against Morocco.

Ramos was linked with a move to United during the summer and we can expect those rumours to resurface in the foreseeable future. Erik ten Hag has already confirmed that he is looking for a striker in the January transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano has got the ball rolling with his recent update. He also suggests that United have been tracking Ramos long before the World Cup, so their interest wouldn’t necessarily come off the back of one major tournament.

  1. No, let’s wait until he’s had a good World Cup, and his price has doubled before declaring an interest. 🤦🏻‍♂️
