PSG president open to talks with Marcus Rashford regarding free transfer

Paris Saint-Germain’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has reflected on his club’s failed pursuit of Marcus Rashford last summer and insisted they would be open to a future deal.

Rashford is out of contract with the Red Devils in the summer of 2023, however, the club have the option to trigger an additional year.

In the summer transfer window reports broke of PSG’s interest in the forward and Al-Khelaifi confirmed their contact today whilst talking to Sky Sports.

If the Englishman does not extend his stay at Old Trafford soon, he would be free to talk to clubs as soon as January, an idea which the PSG president is open to entertaining after the World Cup.

The 25-year-old is in fine form at both club and international level this season and would likely attract interest from top teams across Europe if he does not agree to a new deal.

He has eight goals and three assists in 19 appearances for United and has netted three times in four England matches on the biggest stage – the World Cup. He has been instrumental in their progression to the quarter-finals.

Al-Khelaifi’s comments on Rashford

He said: “He’s another player that is really amazing, and for free? To have Rashford for free, every club would run after him, definitely.

“We’re not hiding it, we spoke before and… interest. But the moment was not a good moment for both sides. Maybe, summer, why not?

“Today if he’s a free agent of course we can talk to him directly but we are not going to talk to him now. Let him focus on the World Cup. Then after in January, hopefully, if we’re interested we will talk to him.”

StrettyNews’ verdict

When Rashford is in form for United, you can see the lad is living his dream. Wythenshawe-born, academy product, adored by fans – it doesn’t get much better for a United fan.

For him to lift a trophy like the Premier League or Champions League with United would mean more to him than it would with any other club, because here it means something to him.
