Manchester United yet to negotiate De Gea’s contract as they eye deal for Yann Sommer

Manchester United have a lot to decide on from now until the end of the season as their goalkeeper conundrum is yet to be solved.

The season-long loan of Martin Dubrakva looks set to end once the 2022/2023 campaign ends, with the Reds unwilling to extend his stay. He has made just one competitive appearance so far for the first team, which is largely due to David de Gea’s fine form.

Dean Henderson is a Carrington graduate who is also enjoying a loan spell at newly-promoted Nottingham Forest. He will return to Old Trafford in the summer, as the club did not include a buy clause in his deal.

As well as that, they are yet to enter talks with De Gea regarding where his future lies at the club. The Spaniard’s current contract will expire in the summer, though United have the option to trigger a one-year extension. They could also offer him a new long-term deal entirely.

A small hint as to Erik ten Hag’s intentions with De Gea is his interest in Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer. The 33-year-old just reached the World Cup Round of 16 with his national team and represents Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach at club level.

His contract at the German side expires in the summer and ESPN confirmed the Red Devils are working to secure the ‘keeper on a free transfer.
