Manchester United loan signing set to return to club at the end of the season

Martin Dubravka looks set to see out his season-long loan and then return to Newcastle United, with the Reds seemingly unwilling to try and extend his stay.

Since he arrived at Old Trafford Dubravka has made just one competitive appearance, a Carabao Cup tie against Aston Villa. United won the match but failed to keep a clean sheet as Villa netted two on the night.

Last night, the goalkeeper started a friendly against Cadiz amongst the few Reds who were not called up to international duty and several academy players. The Red Devils lost 4-2.

According to ESPN, he will make the move back to his parent club once the 2022/2023 campaign ends.

United must solve goalkeeper issue

Despite the results in his appearances, it’s been hard to judge whether or not he’s a good fit due to the short time he’s spent between the sticks. His lack of game time is largely due to David de Gea’s exceptional form this season, and with Dean Henderson expected to return from his spell at Nottingham Forest in the summer, it gives the club a headache as to how to solve their goalkeeper conundrum.

If Dubravka does return to the Magpies, he will face a similar situation in terms of minutes given Nick Pope’s form, who is leading the face for the Golden Glove after picking up seven clean sheets from 15 matches.
