Manchester United most interested in re-signing Barcelona forward

Reports this morning suggest Manchester United are the most interested club in signing Barcelona and Netherlands forward Memphis Depay.

Spanish publication AS (page 26 of Wednesday’s edition), as cited by the Manchester Evening News, believe this is a deal that could go through in January, but surely it depends on how desperate United become next summer.

I don’t think Memphis Depay will be on the agenda if Erik ten Hag has the money to go out and sign PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo.

Depay has managed just over 100 minutes of first team football for Barcelona this season, so it would make sense for the La Liga side to move him on in January if someone like United came knocking on their door.

AS suggest United are ‘most interested’ in landing the Dutchman – but the report doesn’t mention significant interest from any other clubs.

We all know how Depay struggled during his first spell at Old Trafford between 2015 and 2017, but he has developed over the years and may want to set the record straight to quieten his critics.

Depay’s versatility could appeal to Ten Hag because he can play out wide and through the centre.

Let us know in the comments section if you think United should sign Depay in January as a stop-gap option.
