Raphael Varane showed his world-class defending in today’s Round of 16 match and stopped Poland from taking the lead.
France booked their place in the World Cup quarter-finals after overseeing a 3-1 win against Poland this afternoon.
Goals from Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud secured the victory, but Varane’s defending prevented their opponents from netting the opening goal of the tie.
Poland had several efforts on goal blocked and saved by the scrambling Blues’ defence in the 37th minute of the tie before Varane produced a goalline block to stop an almost certain goal.
