Rashford benched, Shaw and Maguire start – England’s starting 11 to face Senegal

Marcus Rashford has been dropped to the bench for England’s Round of 16 clash with Senegal tonight, whilst Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw start.

Gareth Southgate has opted to leave England’s highest scorer on the bench for a must-win tie to progress to the quarter-finals. Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden have been chosen ahead of him.

Rashford has netted three goals throughout the tournament already; one was after just 49 seconds on the pitch against Iran, the next was an exceptional free-kick against Wales and the third showcased his outstanding dribbling as he cut in from the right to slot it past the goalkeeper.

Rashford should have started

When his confidence is high, it shows. Rashford is in remarkable form for both club and country and deserved to start tonight’s match after his performance last week.

Shaw and Maguire are irreplaceable in the lineup after starting the Three Lions’ campaign strong.

The winner of the tie faces France next Saturday after fellow Red Raphael Varane booked his place in the next stage of the competition this afternoon.
