Paul Scholes relieved to see Cristiano Ronaldo saga come to an end

Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer a Manchester United player and ex-players have been reacting to his departure from the club.

Paul Scholes, for one, was delighted to see Manchester United put an end to the drama surrounding the five-time Ballon d’Or winner by terminating his contract.

United announced on Tuesday evening that they had reached a mutual agreement with Ronaldo to go their separate ways. It was coming after his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, during which he slammed the club and made a series of allegations.

The 37-year-old, who is currently in Qatar for the World Cup, is now free to join a new club when Portugal’s campaign comes to an end — but United won’t be involved in those talks.

They’ve got rid of him just in time.

Scholes played alongside Ronaldo at United for six years, but doesn’t appear to have any sympathy for his former teammate. The former midfielder shared a post about Ronaldo’s departure on Instagram alongside the caption (via Manchester Evening News): “Mission accomplished… arsed!!”

Scholes has since deleted the post.

The blunt post is accurate in terms of how I feel about the Ronaldo situation, though. I’m just happy that he can no longer act as a distraction in the dressing room when things aren’t going his way.

It was best for both parties to go their separate ways.

  1. Aa much as I love ronaldo ,he let me down with his antics, he didn’t show signs of someone raised by sir Alex. I am glad the saga ended with a mutual agreement, at least for once the board acted with intelligence in handling the matter. It’s painful it had to end this one, this is not the goodbye , anyone expected
