Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement

Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo will go their separate ways after reaching a mutual agreement.

In a short statement, Manchester United thanked Ronaldo for his contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances.

This means he will now focus on the World Cup as a free agent following a reveal all interview with Piers Morgan, during which he criticised the club, its manager and some of his former teammates.

In turn, the decision to let Ronaldo go will allow United to focus on matters more important. Winning football matches without having a distraction in the background. Sadly for Ronaldo, he became exactly that this season. A sheer distraction.

Our focus is on getting behind the manager and ensuring that the team has something to play for at the end of the season. Ronaldo is only focused on himself and it’s sad to see him leave the club like this, though only through his own doing.

It’s the best for both parties to go their separate ways.
