Manchester United eye Vinicius Jr as Cristiano Ronaldo replacement

Manchester United have reportedly identified Vinicius Jr. as Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement at the club.

Whilst the Portugal captain is still technically a Red, United have reportedly begun the process of terminating his contract following his “explosive” interview with Piers Morgan, in which he detailed his lack of respect for Erik ten Hag and his former teammates – amongst many other things.

The forward will likely seek a suitable destination following the World Cup, with Fiorentina emerging as a potential candidate.

However, United’s focus now needs to be on sorting a replacement. If or when Ronaldo leaves, Ten Hag does not have enough strikers at his disposal to see out the rest of the season, especially if he wants any chance at success.

Real Madrid star a possibility?

According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, Ten Hag has set his sights on Real Madrid starlet Vinicius Jr and views him as an ideal replacement for the wantaway Ronaldo.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a stellar career so far in Spain, having netted the winning goal in last season’s Champions League final to secure the club’s 14th European Cup.

His contract runs until 2024 meaning he will cost a hefty fee if the Dutchman wants to prise him from Carlo Ancelotti’s grasp.
