Man United star provides injury update after impressive World Cup display

Harry Maguire’s form has been under the microscope ahead of this winter’s World Cup but England manager Gareth Southgate showed his faith in the defender by naming him in the line-up for their opening game against Iran.

Maguire has hardly put a foot wrong for England and that continued on Monday afternoon as he put in an impressive display in the Three Lions’ six-goal show.

The United skipper nearly opened the scoring for England when his header bounced off the woodwork but moments later, he would assist Bukayo Saka’s goal to make it 2-0.

He was, however, withdrawn in the second half with what looked to be a head injury. Earlier, TV presenter Gary Lineker reported that Maguire was suffering from blurred vision.

After the game, Maguire has now provided a positive update himself on his condition, stating he is fine and came off as a precaution.

“I felt unwell in the second half so came off as a precaution,” Maguire said on Twitter. “Looking forward to Friday.”

The victory gives England a springboard finish first in the group but will face the USA later this week. Three points on Friday could seal top spot.
