Gary Lineker provides update on Harry Maguire’s condition after head injury

Harry Maguire hobbled off the pitch with a head injury in the second half of England’s 6-2 win over Iran at the 2022 World Cup.

BBC Sport presenter and former England international Gary Lineker offered an update on the condition of Harry Maguire after he suffered from blurred vision during England’s comfortable win against Iran.

It didn’t stop Gareth Southgate’s side from claiming all three points but it may have benefited Iran for their first of two goals. Maguire lasted 70 minutes before being replaced by Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier.

Having spoken to the medical team before going off, Lineker said on BBC Sport at full-time (via Daily Star): “Harry Maguire was struggling at that time and apparently he had blurred vision, nothing too serious, he’s okay, we’re led to believe.

“That’s what’s coming out of the England dressing room.”

This is the sort of coverage we want to see from our broadcasters. Straight from the dressing room… almost!

Maguire went off at 4-1 and had performed well but, to be totally honest, he didn’t have much to do. He did register an assist in the first-half by showing his strengths in the opponents’ box for set-pieces.

I think he answered his critics with a hush but they will be waiting for the next game.
