Ten Hag forced to stop Man United training after Martial is involved in bust-up

Manchester United players who are not taking part in this winter’s World Cup spent this week training as usual at Carrington and according to reports, one incident involving Anthony Martial forced Erik ten Hag to temporarily put the session to a halt.

Martial has started just two league games for United this season amid a campaign plagued by injuries but the Frenchman remains one of Ten Hag’s favourites.

His poor availability is likely the reason behind his exclusion from France’s World Cup squad but instead, Martial has been handed the opportunity to return to full fitness by the time club football resumes in December.

According to The Mirror, all has not gone well in Manchester since the bulk of Ten Hag’s senior squad departed for Qatar, however.

As per the report, Martial was involved in a training ground bust-up with youth player Dan Gore, 18, after the youngster tackled the forward.

The incident is said to have occurred in one of the final sessions before the players left for a mid-season break, with Martial reacting angrily to Gore’s tackle.

The report claims Martial lashed out at Gore before the pair were separated, with Gore told by the coaching staff that tackling first-team players was off the table in training games.

Fortunately, there is no bad blood between the two players as Martial is said to have apologised and Gore happily accepted his team-mate’s peace offering.

SN’s verdict…
The first half of this season has been marked by United’s very obvious lack of goalscoring talent and after impressing during pre-season, Martial looks like a perfect fit for Ten Hag.

His fitness has been a real issue and on a personal level, it must have been frustrating to watch from the sidelines. Wanting to avoid yet another setback is understandable and that might be why Martial reportedly reacted the way he did.

  1. Games changed. I remember a culture at United where players mentioned several times how training was harder than the game itself. Shit. You seen Casemeiro flying into challenges in the Brazil camp? I love that an 18 yr old is trying to prove himself. Fair play to Tony. Shake hands and move on. Shit happens in training. Reporting it doesn’t help. Wouldn’t have leaked under Sir Alex.
