Cristiano Ronaldo invited by A-League CEO to join Australian side

When Cristiano Ronaldo chose to go big with his interview on TalkTV this week, criticising all corners of Manchester United and causing an unnecessary headache for fans, he undoubtedly expected better offers than one from the A-League.

I don’t mean to disrespect Australian football, but I honestly don’t think Ronaldo wants to leave Europe next year. It might be a good time to – after the World Cup – but he is presumably hoping to play in the Champions League again.

It remains to be seen if he gets an offer to.

Ronaldo looks certain to leave Manchester United in the coming weeks, with the latest reports suggesting that he could be sacked by the club after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

If an offer doesn’t come in from Europe, Ronaldo should reach out to A-League CEO Danny Townsend, who revealed an escape route for the star to move Down Under.

“[Ronaldo] said he wasn’t getting any love and respect at Manchester United but we’ll certainly give him plenty of love and respect in Australia,” Townsend said in comments published by News Corp, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “We might not be able to compete financially with other offers but we can compete in other ways.

“Obviously it’s a long shot but we’ve certainly got a compelling proposition for him here in Australia to consider.”

Moving to the A-League but be a huge step down in Ronaldo’s career, but at least he will get to spend some time in Australia.

Ronaldo is currently away at the World Cup in Qatar.
