Wayne Rooney’s classy response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments

The Manchester United legend was asked about the comments of Cristiano Ronaldo from his latest interview.

Rooney attended the Globe Soccer Awards last night to pick up his Player Career Award.

He had been heavily criticised by his former teammate, Ronaldo, for previously making lighthearted comments on his behaviour at United. The Portugal international evidently took the comments to heart, though, and made several digs at the striker in his chat with Piers Morgan.

Rooney is forever an icon amongst the Old Trafford faithful. His dedication to the club and all he achieved has secured his legend status; he is United’s all-time leading goalscorer (253), second in the Premier League’s goalscoring charts at second, England’s all-time top scorer and third in the all-time assist charts.

He lifted five Premier League titles, three League Cups, a Champions League, Europa League, Fa Cup and Club World Cup. Rooney is regarded by many as the best striker in English football history.

Rooney’s response

When talking to CNN, as seen in the video below via @ManUnitedZone_, Rooney said: “Cristiano’s a fantastic player and as I’ve said before, him and [Lionel] Messi are the two best players, probably, to ever play the game. Again, it’s not a criticism, what I’ve said is age comes to all of us and Cristiano is obviously feeling that and he’s finding it hard to deal with that.

“Obviously he’s done an interview and it’s gone global – bit strange, some of the comments are a bit strange but I’m sure Manchester United will deal with it once they’ve seen the full interview, and they’ll take whatever action they need to take.”
