Ian Wright suggests Cristiano Ronaldo seeks counselling to accept end of career

Former Arsenal star Ian Wright has weighed in on the Cristiano Ronaldo situation.

An “explosive” interview with Piers Morgan aired to the public this week.

The first hour saw Ronaldo detail losing his baby, his relationship past and present teammates, the facilities at Carrington and former managers – amongst other things.

It has had a mixed reception from the fans and public, with certain supporters praising his vocality on the Glazers, however, other fans find the entire thing as confirmation he is done with the club, especially after a snippet was released of Ronaldo saying he has no respect for Erik ten Hag.

Wright weighs in

On The Kelly and Wrighty Show, Wright said: “For him not to be able to deal with his career coming to an end – it happens to all of us, it happened to me. You do feel a sense of’ ‘is that it?’

“It must be difficult for him and something he may need to seek counselling for.”

Stretty News’ verdict

There is no questioning the status of Ronaldo in world football throughout his career; five Ballon d’Ors and five Champions Leagues are just a small fraction of the honours he’s claimed. However, his time as a regular starter in the top divisions is likely over, and this interview has only furthered that case.

Not many clubs will be open to taking a player that can cause so many issues publicly, leaving matches early, refusing to be substituted into a game and slating managers and teammates on television.

Wright is correct, it seems as though the 37-year-old cannot accept his career is coming to an end, and instead of looking back with pride and finishing it in a normal manner, he has to make a scene.
