Manchester United eye Benfica youngster Enzo Fernandez for summer deal

Manchester United have set their sights on Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez, after being linked with the midfielder last summer.

The 21-year-old is enjoying a fine season so far with the Portuguese side; he has scored three goals and assisted three and side sit first placed in the Primeira Liga, as well as finishing on top of their Champions League group.

Remarkably, Benfica are unbeaten in both competitions.

United are keen on bolstering their midfield options with the addition of the young talent and two Reds could play a key part in convincing Fernandez to sign.

An Argentine international, Fernandez would be well acquainted with Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho. The 21-year-old made his senior debut for the national team last year.

United aiming to pursue a summer move for Fernandez

According to Record Portugal via Sport Witness, the Red Devils are the “main club” interested in pursuing Fernandez and are “crazy” about signing him. They also reported that Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester City have begun monitoring the player, but United remain the most interested.

It’s unlikely a January deal will be agreed as Benfica would only let the player depart at the end of the season.
