Manchester United’s potential opponents in the Europa League Round of 16 play-offs

Manchester United overturned Real Sociedad on Thursday evening but unfortunately for the Red Devils, one goal was not enough to top the group.

Sociedad finish the Europa League group stage as Group E winners and consequently, second-placed United will be forced to play in the Round of 16 playoffs.

One positive from the night was that 18-year-old academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho, who made his senior debut for the club only last week, netted his first goal for the Reds and was assisted by his favourite player, Cristiano Ronaldo. He then celebrated by mimicking Ronaldo’s latest celebration.

The draw will take place on Monday, November 7 and the knockout round playoffs will take place on February 16 and 23. If successful, the Round of 16 will begin on March 9.

Who could United face?

The Reds will face a side that has been demoted from the Champions League by finishing third in their respective groups.

They may draw any of the following:

Ajax (NED)

Barcelona (ESP)

Juventus (ITA)

Bayer Leverkusen (GER)

FC Salzburg (AUT)

Sevilla (ESP)

Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR)

Sporting CP (POR)
