Facundo Pellistri’s agent confirms intentions for player to leave Manchester United

Facundo Pellistri could be set to leave Manchester United without playing a single competitive fixture for the club, his agent has confirmed.

The 20-year-old joined the Manchester side in 2020 but has failed to make an impact at the club, having never featured for United in a competitive match. Pellistri completed two loan spells at Spanish side Deportivo Alaves before returning to United for the 2022/2023 campaign.

He was signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjear and cost the Red Devils £9 million from Uruguayan side Penarol, but it looks as if he has no part to play in Erik ten Hag’s plans.

Pellistri has netted two goals whilst with the first-team squad during pre-season games against Derby County in July 2021 and Liverpool in July 2022, he suffered an ankle injury during the latter which ruled him out of the opening matches of the season. Throughout his two seasons at United he has only played competitive games for both the Under-21 and Under-23 teams.

He has, however, featured for the Uruguay senior national team and is expected to play at the forthcoming World Cup tournament in Qatar that kicks off later this month. The youngster first received a call-up in January 2022 for the team’s World Cup qualifying matches.

Pellistri’s agent will look to secure move for player

His agent has confirmed his intentions to find a new club for Pellistri, he told ESPN: “I think with a good World Cup, as we think he will have, his departure [from Man Utd] is imminent.”

Could Ten Hag come to regret letting Pellistri leave without having had a real chance at first-team football?
