Diogo Costa among two goalkeepers being scouted by Manchester United

Even though reports suggest David de Gea is willing to take a pay cut at Manchester United, it is still believed that the club is considering other goalkeepers in the transfer market such as FC Porto’s Diogo Costa.

We have watched De Gea as our first-choice goalkeeper since 2011 and he has made it very clear that his desire is to remain at Old Trafford for many more years.

Questions have been asked of De Gea since Erik ten Hag’s arrival because the manager has visions of his side playing out from the back. The Spaniard has improved those aspects of his game this season, but it wasn’t easy sailing as De Gea struggled at the beginning of the season.

The Athletic claim De Gea is willing to take a significant pay cut to remain at United as he is ‘settled’ in Manchester and would prefer to not relocate.

However, the report states De Gea would expect to be No.1 at United and Ten Hag isn’t fully convinced, though he is not closing that door just yet.

Goalkeeper scout Tony Coton is leading the search for a new keeper of good age to play for United over the coming decade, with two names listed as targets in the report. They included FC Porto’s Diogo Costa (23), who we have been writing about a lot on the blog this season, and Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon (25).

Costa has been good for Porto this season and he is expected to start for Portugal at the World Cup next month. He saved a penalty in each of his last three games in the Champions League.

The Portuguese shot-stopper is certainly one to watch!
