When Cristiano Ronaldo could make Man Utd return after Chelsea axe

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United is hanging in the balance after the 37-year-old was punished for refusing to come on as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Tottenham earlier this week.

Ronaldo was named on the bench for the game and with United leading by two goals close to the final whistle, Ronaldo was seen storming into the tunnel.

Less than 24 hours after the game against Tottenham, United confirmed that Ronaldo would not be taking any part in the game against Chelsea on Saturday.

It’s reported that Ronaldo will not be allowed to train with the first team for the rest of the week but now, there are reports on when the forward could make his return.

According to ESPN journalist Rob Dawson, Ronaldo is back at Carrington on Friday morning to train individually following his exile from the main group.

It’s claimed that he will continue to do so for the rest of the week, with the situation potentially changing on Monday. In possibly the most interesting development, Dawson adds that Ronaldo could return to the squad as soon as next week when United welcome FC Sheriff to Old Trafford.

It’s clarified that the decision will still be down to manager Erik ten Hag and thus far, the Dutchman has been completely ruthless with his handling of the situation.

SN’s verdict…
Regardless of whether Ronaldo is welcomed back into the squad, the severity of what he’s done cannot be lost on supporters. Even after he tried to leave this summer, the Old Trafford faithful remained firmly in his corner.

It will be interesting to see what kind of reception he gets next Thursday if he does make his return to the side. Ten Hag will, however, not be swayed by politics and will make the best decision for the club.
