Manchester United axe Ronaldo from squad to face Chelsea

Cristiano Ronaldo has been axed from the squad to face Chelsea this weekend.

Chris Wheeler provided an update this afternoon when he revealed that Ronaldo refused to come on as a substitute on Wednesday night before heading towards the tunnel at the Stretford End.

The journalist followed up with a tweet to say United had issued a statement to say Ronaldo has been axed from the squad to face Chelsea on Saturday, however, there was no comment on whether the 37-year-old picked up a fine for his childish behaviour.

Manchester United’s statement reads, as per Wheeler: “Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Man Utd squad for this Saturday’s game against Chelsea. The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture.”

Erik ten Hag’s United side visit Graham Potter’s Chelsea this weekend and the Dutchman will hope he is players can carry their confidence into the game. That is difficult when you have Ronaldo sat in the corner with a face like a bulldog licking nettle.

Now it’s about getting ready for that game against Chelsea – not else, especially not Ronaldo. We need the same sort of performance we showed against Tottenham last night and he wasn’t on the pitch.

Right call. Now fine him!

This sort of behaviour cannot be tolerated by a senior player and it needs to be stamped out.
