Reports suggest Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to try to sign Alessandro Bastoni next year.

According to Fichajes, Ten Hag is ‘obsessed’ with the Inter Milan centre-back and wants his side to be involved in discussions should he become available for transfer.

Before bringing in any new defenders, it may be a good idea to sell one of two of the players we’ve already got, who are surplus to requirements. That includes Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and Harry Maguire because I would opt to keep Victor Lindelof as a squad player. The Swede has proven to be a good option when called upon by Ten Hag this season.

Meanwhile, Maguire has been injured in recent weeks but he now looks a million miles away from the team, purely based on the form of Lisandro Martinez and Varane. I would be surprised if he made many appearances before the World Cup kicks-off in Qatar.

United will need fresh legs at centre-back next summer because we are already too reliant on Raphael Varane, who has a track record for getting injured, and a long spell with him out of the team could prove costly.

That is when United will be calling upon Lindelof or Maguire again…

Ten Hag could see Bastoni as that player to help solidify our defence even more over the coming months. At 23, he’s got his best years ahead of him. Let us know what you think in the comments section.
