Erik ten Hag is reportedly interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and could make a move for the defender in January.

The 21-year-old is a former Manchester City academy player, just like Jadon Sancho, who also made the move to Germany to establish himself. Frimpong never featured for City’s senior team before making a move to Celtic in September 2019. He won the Scottish side’s Young Player of the Year award for the 2019/2020 season.

He signed for Leverkusen in January 2021 and has since made 61 appearances for the Bundesliga club. He provides threat on the attack but is solid defensively.

According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, United are monitoring the youngster and would potentially make a move in the January transfer window.

Frimpong’s contract expires in 2025 and he is a key player for Leverkusen, so he may come costly if Ten Hag wants to complete the signing before the end of the season.

Ten Hag aims to bolster right-back options

The Dutch defender would provide competition for Diogo Dalot at right-back, who Ten Hag has preferred to Aaron Wan-Bissaka since taking charge of United.
