Man United player ratings vs Spurs: Fernandes superb but winger worryingly woeful

Manchester United put in their best performance of the season against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils were relentless from the first minute to the last. Allowing Antonio Conte’s Lilywhites no space to breathe, United’s high press worked a treat and allowed their best attackers to flourish.

Midfield duo Fred and Bruno Fernandes were the game’s goalscoring heroes with the latter arguably the match’s best player.

Following on from what a really solid performance all around, we have rated every United player who featured.

David De Gea

Barely given anything to do which is testimony to how well his teammates played. 7/10

Diogo Dalot

United’s best-attacking full-back and tonight’s performance echoed that. Continually posed a threat down Spurs’ flank.

The Portugal international will continue to keep Aaron Wan-Bissaka out of the first-team picture. 6/10

Raphael Varane

Superb in defence again.

Forming a better partnership with Lisandro Martinez with every passing game. 7/10

Lisandro Martinez

Similarly to Varane, Martinez was solid once again. No mistakes to report. 7/10

Luke Shaw

Didn’t allow Matt Doherty any space to operate.

Would have liked to have seen him get forward a little more, but put in a decent performance overall. 6/10

Casemiro

Tenacious, physical and unforgiving all evening.

The former Real Madrid midfielder put in an excellent performance and definitely secured a starting spot against Chelsea on the weekend. 7/10

Fred

Many would have questioned the Brazilian’s inclusion but he put in a great performance.

Scored the opening goal and provided lots of energy in midfield. 7/10

Bruno Fernandes

Had a really good game. Arguably United’s most creative player all evening and scored a beautiful goal in the second half. Thoroughly deserves all the credit coming his way. 8/10

Antony

Desperately unlucky not to have scored in the first half. Had a quieter second half but a decent game overall. Subbed off with 15 minutes to go for Scott McTominay 6/10

Jadon Sancho

Another quiet game.

Ten Hag must find a way to get his left-sided winger firing because fans won’t tolerate this level of poor form for much longer. 4/10

Marcus Rashford

Did everything but score. Decent game and looks to be at home in the number nine role. 6/10

Subs:

Scott McTominay

Slotted into midfield well for the 15 or so minutes he was on the pitch. Going to be hard to claim a starting place against Chelsea on the weekend, but at least the Scotland international is giving his manager a nice problem to have. 6/10

  1. It was a deserved win
But left wing is still a problem not firing enough mostly our number 25.
He needs to be resting on bench and coming as a substitute

  2. Still think Marcus is our best option on the left. Stick a ruthless striker through the middle and, on the strength of last night’s performance, you’ll have a terrifying team. In Erik we trust!
