Manchester United register interest in Inter Milan star

Manchester United are still looking for a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who is out of contract at the end of this season and Erik ten Hag has preferred Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford.

The latter has, however, only started one league game all season and he had to withdraw in the first half due to injury. Rashford, who has impressed this season, prefers to play on the left.

That means that a striker will most likely be high on Ten Hag’s wishlist in the next two transfer windows and according to reports, Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez is a player the Old Trafford club have registered their interest in.

That’s according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sport Witness, who say that United have asked for ‘first-hand information’ about the Argentine.

It’s claimed that Martinez’s impressive performance of late, which includes a stellar display against Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou, have put him back on the radar among Europe’s elite clubs.

Gazzetta add that United are not the only side interested in Martinez, with French giants Paris Saint-Germain also said to be admirers.

It’s claimed that as things stand, no formal offers have been made but it has been made clear that there is an interest in the forward.

Martinez is not believed to be interested in a move right now as he remains focused on Inter and Argentina ahead of the World Cup next month.

SN’s verdict…
United must get the next striker signing right after many failed attempts but unfortunately, there is a shortage of world-class strikers on the market.

Ronaldo’s arrival was always going to be a short-term solution to a long-term issue but Martinez could fit the profile. Ivan Toney, the Brentford striker, is another alternative.
