(Video) McTominay states United had to be ‘patient’ in Europa League tie

Manchester United saw out a 1-0 win in a tightly contested clash with Omonia at Old Trafford on Thursday, October 13.

United failed to break the deadlock in normal time despite having 34 shots in total with 13 on target, as well as 78% possession.

Second-half substitute Scott McTominay was able to secure the three points after his late strike was able to beat Omonia’s Francis Uzoha, who put on an exceptional performance to deny United’s ever-threatening attackers.

The win put the Reds second in Group E – three points behind Real Sociedad before they return to Europa League action on October 27.

After the game, when asked if he felt as though the first goal was not going to come, McTominay told BT Sport: “No, you have to be patient.

Obviously Marcus [Rashford] had so many goal scoring opportunities… he’s done pretty much everything but score.”

He went on to laud the Omonia keeper as “different class”.

The Scotsman added: “Fair play to them, they were different class, but I felt like we created enough chances in the game to score.”
