Cristiano Ronaldo does not accept the FA’s improper conduct charge for allegedly knocking a mobile phone out of a fan’s hand at Goodison Park last season.
The incident occurred over six months ago as the Manchester United star was filmed slapping the phone out of the hand of an Everton supporter as he made his way back to the dressing room after a disappointing result. This happened in April, over six months ago, and the FA have only decided to punish Ronaldo now.
Ronaldo had until Monday to respond to the FA charge and United manager Erik ten Hag told reporters he will contest it.
“We talked about that, he will not accept it,” Ten Hag said, as per the Mirror.
I think that may explain why Ronaldo doesn’t accept the charge. Why didn’t they hand it out after the game and wait for the following season?
Ronaldo has already apologised to the fan in question for his behaviour, so he accepts wrongdoing on his part, but it may be a matter of the FA showing their power.
The 37-year-old was charged with breaching rule E3, which relates to improper or violent conduct.
We don’t condone Ronaldo’s actions at Goodison Park last summer but the FA’s timing is odd to say the least.
