Manchester United send scouts to Italy to watch Davide Frattesi in action

Manchester United are interested in Italian international Davide Frattesi and have reportedly sent scouts to watch the midfielder in action for Sassuolo.

According to The Mirror, United have sent their scouts over to Italy to monitor the star but also face interest from Premier League sides Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as Serie A giants Inter Milan and Roma.

Frattesi been described as a “consistent, physical player with a strong turn of pace and quick to win back possession.”

The 23-year-old has already netted three goals in nine appearances in the league this season and has represented Italy at senior level four times in the Nations League.

United are also keen on pursuing either Jude Bellingham or Frenkie de Jong this summer, with the Englishman likely to be the priority out of the two. The 19-year-old’s decision on where he will play next season will impact whether or not the Reds will approach De Jong again, after spending the majority of the summer trying to convince the Dutchman to move to Manchester.

Should Manchester United enter the race for Fratessi?

The young Italian provides a significantly cheaper option than the Red Devils’ other midfield targets. De Jong being a proven, gifted playmaker and established Netherlands international at only 25 means he won’t come cheap, but Bellingham is likely to break transfer records this summer.

The 19-year-old has proven his ability on some of the biggest stages in world football; Champions League, Euro 2020 and the Bundesliga. Borussia Dortmund have valued their starlet at around £131.6 million and his contributions at the World Cup, should he receive a call-up, could only increase his value over the winter.

Frattesi may not yet be as highly rated as United’s other targets – but is worth keeping an eye on throughout the season. If there’s a chance to pick up a young midfielder who is hungry for experience and game time, Old Trafford could prove to be the most suitable destination for him.
