Cody Gakpo not convinced by Leeds United transfer due to raised expectations

Manchester United and Leeds were both interested in signing Cody Gakpo this summer.

According to The Athletic, Leeds and PSV came close to an agreement before deadline day in the summer, but a move is now unlikely after the 23-year-old’s incredible start to the season.

Gakpo has scored seven goals and registered five assists in just 10 matches and he will be hoping for a bigger move in the future, especially if he can continue this level of form throughout the season.

This contradicts a recent report from The Mirror which suggested that Leeds are in pole position to sign Gakpo.

The Netherlands international would have been a superb signing for Leeds, but by waiting an extra year he should be able to complete a move to an even bigger club.

I genuinely think United should be trying to sign Gakpo in January or next summer. Do whatever it takes because you don’t see many wingers with his finishing ability.

United overlooked the winger in the summer because Erik ten Hag prioritised a move for Antony, who has been an instant hit with fans, scoring three goals in as many Premier League appearances.
