Antony can break Manchester United record against Everton

Manchester United winger Antony will be looking to break his first Manchester United record against Everton on Sunday.

The Red Devils go into the game after beating Omonia Nicosia 3-2 to Cyprus, but on Sunday they must get back on track in the Premier League. Erik ten Hag’s side will be dusting themselves off after losing the Manchester derby 6-3 last weekend and anything less than a win would come as a big disappointment.

Ten Hag signed Antony and Lisandro Martinez from his former club and both players are having an instant impact on the team.

Antony scored on a beautiful goal on his debut against Arsenal, which won the Manchester United Goal of the Month award for September, and he added another goal to his account in the derby.

The Brazil joins several players – including Zlatan Ibrahimovic – by scoring in his first two league outings for United, but no player has done so in their first three games.

Ibrahimovic scored three goals in his first two matches – against Bournemouth and Southampton – but Antony will be looking to go one better against the Toffees.

This means Antony could set a record of his own on Sunday.

Will Antony start against Everton?

This may seem like a stupid question, and I think he will, but Paul Scholes doesn’t sound so sure after criticising Antony following the heavy derby defeat. He also hit out at Sancho and thinks both wingers should be dropped for the trip to Goodison Park.

After the Europa League win over Omonia, Scholes said (via Manchester Evening News): “I don’t think Antony, on the other side, runs in behind, he seems to be a little bit of a one-trick pony, always cutting inside and passing back to the full-back or having a shot
.
“I think he needs to develop a little bit more. It is still early days for him and we know that.”

Let us know in the comments section if you agree with Scholes.
