Conti Cup: Aston Villa edge Manchester United Women on penalties

Manchester United were beaten in their opening match in this season’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup, losing 4-3 on penalties against Aston Villa following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.

Nikita Parris opened the scoring for Manchester United, but her goal was cancelled out by Rachel Daly, who forced the game to penalties as Villa took the bonus point.

In total, 14 penalties were taken with Villa missing three and United coming up short on four occasions.

United’s next game in the Conti Cup will be against Durham.
