(Video) Antony admits Man Utd transfer saga made him anxious

Manchester United are not strangers to summer-long transfer sagas and it was no different this year, with more than one story dominating headlines for large parts.

United’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong, which looked like a dead end from the jump, is memorable but the Red’s interest in Antony was also well-documented.

United waited until the final few weeks of the window to make a formal approach to sign the Brazil international, however, with the first bid sending shockwaves through Ajax.

Antony did not train with the first team during negotiations between Ajax and United as he did his part to force a move through. Now, speaking after scoring on his debut against Arsenal nine days ago, the 22-year-old has admitted that the saga made him anxious.

“It was difficult, I was anxious,” Antony told Sky Sports, as seen above. “I couldn’t wait to get here and put the shirt on. There were sleepless nights and difficult moments at Ajax as well.

“Everyone knows, I was in contact with the people here. I’m thankful to Man Utd for their persistence, for their faith, wanting to sign me and giving me hope that it would be possible.

“I’m really happy. I feel fulfilled being at the club and wearing this shirt.”

Antony’s sparkling start to life at United meant he become the 21st Red to score on his debut for the club – he’ll hope for more days like that over the next couple of months.
