Manchester United hold talks over Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka

Manchester United are in the hunt for a new goalkeeper and Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

It is believed that Erik ten Hag is not looking to someone to come in as an understudy to David de Gea, but someone who will also provide the Spaniard with competition. He was subject to criticism after the first two games of the season as United lost to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.

United need a keeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and is willing to come off his line, claim crosses and start attacks from the back.

One keeper linked with United is Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, although reports suggest the Red Devils won’t meet the Bundesliga club’s €25m asking price.

The Europa League-winner is now set to stay at the German club.

Dubravka to Manchester United?

However, Dubravka comes as a surprise target – even though he started most games for Newcastle last season. Since then, he has been relegated to second choice keeper following the arrival of Nick Pope.

Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth claims United have held talks with Newcastle over the signing of Dubravka and the player is open to the move.

Is Dubravka the right man to keep De Gea on his toes?
