Casemiro’s first words as a Manchester United player

Manchester United have announced that a deal to sign Casemiro, the former Real Madrid star, has been completed. The 30-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the option of a further year.

He becomes United’s fourth signing of the summer and supporters will view him as a great addition to the squad after several summers of failing to add a defensive midfielder to the ranks.

Similar to when Raphael Varane was paraded last year, Casemiro was unveiled by the club at Old Trafford prior to Monday night’s mouthwatering clash with Liverpool.

Just moments after, official communication came from the club that Casemiro’s move had been finalised and now, he has spoken for the first time since joining the club.

“The opportunity to start a new challenge at Manchester United and in the Premier League is extremely exciting,” Casemiro is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website.

“I have worked with many great managers in my career and, having met with Erik and heard his ideas, I can’t wait to work closely with him, his staff and my new team-mates in the coming years.

“I’m ending one beautiful journey in Madrid whilst starting another in Manchester as determined as ever to win football matches, win trophies and make our fans proud by bringing success to this great club.

“Everybody knows the history of Manchester United, the significance of the club around the world and what it means to its supporters. To represent United is an honour and I am ready to give everything to help the team achieve our ambitions.”

SN’s verdict…
Some have argued that Casemiro’s arrival shows signs of desperation from United but in truth, they are adding one of the best players in the world and Erik ten Hag will be delighted.

At 30, he’s also in his peak years with several terms still ahead of him. The argument that he doesn’t fit Ten Hag’s style can also be debunked.

At Ajax, he relied heavily on Edson Alvarez in midfield and the Mexican is similar to Casemiro in more ways than one. Ten Hag will, however, be keen on adding at least another midfielder before next week’s deadline.
