Manchester United drew 1-1 against Rayo Vallecano in our last pre-season friendly of the summer.
Next weekend we will start our 2022/23 campaign with a home match against Brighton.
Ten Hag gave opportunities to a lot of fringe players – as well as his new signings – at Old Trafford today. I think he will be encouraged by how some of his players performed.
Amad Diallo scored United’s only goal just minutes after replacing Cristiano Ronaldo.
Alejandro Garnacho is ready for first-team football
The young forward has us excited after seeing his stock rise in the youth teams, but he was excellent against Rayo Vallecano and looks like the type of player you’d buy a ticket to watch.
Garnacho ran at defenders without any fear and his close control caused them problems.
I hope we see him get some minutes off the bench this season. He looks ready!
Lisandro Martinez is one cool operator
I wish my butcher was as cool as Martinez.
He looked comfortable and assured on his debut. Moreover, in terms of preparations, he looked a million miles ahead of Raphael Varane.
Martinez has confidence and aggression in abundance.
Ethan Laird is a better option to keep than Wan-Bissaka
What happens next season if Diogo Dalot picks up an injury? I don’t think Aaron Wan-Bissaka should be the answer to that question and Laird looks a much better prospect.
Although he looks set to join Watford on loan, I thought he his runs down the line made life hard for Vallecano and it may be a good idea to keep him at United this summer.
Wan-Bissaka is far too limited to fit into Ten Hag’s system because the full-backs are being asked to push further forward, overlap and cross the ball into the box.
