Spanish report suggests De Jong prefers Chelsea over Manchester United

Manchester United have been working hard to sign Frenkie de Jong this summer.

The Barcelona midfielder previously stated that he wishes to stay at Camp Nou, however, the La Liga side continues to push him out the door.

On Tuesday, the fiasco produced its latest exhaustive twist among Spanish newspapers.

According to Sport, Frenkie de Jong met Xavi Hernandez over his Barcelona future during their pre-season tour in the United States. It is suggested that the player repeated his desire to stay at Barca. But in even more of a catastrophic update for many of our readers, the report adds De Jong would only agree to leave Barcelona if it was for Chelsea.

They are trying to paint a picture that De Jong is not interested in dropping out of the Champions League, which is something he had to do last season, as Barca played Europa League football after failing to qualify for the knockout stages of Europe’s most prestigious competition.

That didn’t change his tune about wanting to stay at Camp Nou.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea will step up their interest in De Jong with a bid, but the Stamford Bridge club have been linked with every player in the market since their takeover.

Chelsea struggled for goals last season and may want a player like De Jong to assist their attacking players next season. Thomas Tuchel is also believed to be in the market for a new centre-back.

  1. Fed up with all this De Jong nonsense, why does it take Utd for ever to buy and sell players. City and Liverpool do it efficiently , take the Nunez and Haland deals, hardly mentioned even in the papers and completed in days. We’ve known we needed two quality midfielders for some time and should already be in place . Nevez , Bellingham, Kessie ???. We look like amateurs every transfer window and will ruin the confidence in Ten hags squad . Do the bloody deals.

  2. Right on! How bloody indecisive can management be. Either “poop” or get off the pot…my gran used to say that, and seems at least as applicable here and now as it might anywhere else…other what’s going on in Ukraine.
