Nottingham Forest make move for free agent Jesse Lingard

Nottingham Forest are reportedly closing in on signing Jesse Lingard on a free transfer.

Lingard is currently a free agent after leaving Manchester United following the expiration of his contract this summer and, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest are now in advanced talks to sign the midfielder.

West Ham still have a chance but they need to be quick if they are serious about securing Lingard’s signature.

The 29-year-old had been expected to rejoin West Ham following a successful loan spell with the club back in 2021, but it now appears Forest have won the race for his signature.

Truth be told, Lingard should have left Manchester United years ago. Despite a promising start to his Reds career he has found game time increasingly hard to come by over the last three seasons and, for his footballing career alone, the England international should have moved on by now.

Having flourished at West Ham during his loan spell, it was a shock when Lingard returned back to United last summer. The midfielder had rediscovered his form and looked set to work his way back into Gareth Southgate’s squad. That said, he didn’t make the Euro 2020 squad after his impressive stint at West Ham.

A move to Nottingham Forest now I feel may has come a tad late in the day for Lingard in terms of revitalising his career. That moment you feel may has passed him by…
