(Video) Liverpool star Darwin Nunez misses open net in Man Utd friendly

Manchester United’s pre-season games are officially underway and Erik ten Hag’s first test in charge of the Reds came against Liverpool in Bangkok.

The 52-year-old named a strong starting eleven for the game against Jurgen Klopp’s side, with his counterpart using 32 players across the 90 minutes.

Ten Hag named two different teams on either side of half-time, with David de Gea the only survior for the first half after United went into the interval with a comfortable three-goal lead. He was eventually replaced by Tom Heaton.

It looked like goals from Jadon Sancho, Fred and Anthony Martial would be it for United but Uruguayan sensation Facundo Pellistri scored a brilliant goal late on to make it four.

Just moments later, Pellistri’s international teammate Darwin Nunez has a chance to score a consolation goal for the Merseyside club but the former Benfica star fluffed his lines.

Mohamed Salah’s audacious curler struck the post and the rebound fell perfectly to Nunez, who had the goal at his mercy. The 23-year-old was denied a goalscoring start to life at Liverpool and instead saw the ball fly over the bar, as seen above.

United were heavily linked with Nunez at the start of the summer but his high price tag prevented the Reds from pursuing a deal, with Liverpool instead pouncing.
