(Video) Erik ten Hag explains how he wants Man Utd to play

Earlier this year, Erik ten Hag became the latest man to be tasked with turning Manchester United’s fortunes around and fans are eager to see the side transform under the Dutchman.

Last season was dire viewing for supporters and it produced their worst-ever Premier League finish of 58 points. Wholesale changes to the squad are expected over the summer, with seven first-team players already having left the club.

Ten Hag gained his reputation at Ajax after guiding the Amsterdam club to the Champions League semi-finals in his first pre-season, with their attacking style of football catching the eye of onlookers as they comfortably swept the floor with Real Madrid and Juventus.

United fans will hope to see him do one better at Old Trafford and speaking before his side left for their summer tour in Thailand, Ten Hag revealed his vision for the team.

“We want to play proactive style of football – on the ball and off the ball,” he said in an interview with Manchester United’s official website, as seen above.

“That is, trying to do, that has to be our intentions and it’s now on us. First, the coaches bring it over to the team, that in every situation, we are proactive, be brave, willing to have the ball.

“To give each other options but also, off the ball, get the pressing style in, that is what we’re working for together.”

United fans won’t have to wait for long before Ten Hag walks his side out for the first time, with their pre-season campaign kicking off next week against Liverpool.

On Friday, the 52-year-old named a 31-man squad for games in Thailand and Australia, with several youngers hoping to feature as a new era begins.
