Worry for Man United as Chelsea prepare to hijack De Jong deal with two player offer

Chelsea could be preparing to hijack Manchester United’s transfer plans for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong.

That’s according to a recent report from Relevo journalist Sergio Santos, who has reported that the Red Devils’ domestic rivals are trying to scupper any potential deal currently being discussed.

Santos believes Chelsea are prepared to offer the La Liga giants Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso in exchange for De Jong.

Although the Blues are also rumoured to be considering an approach for Cristiano Ronaldo (90min), with new owner Todd Boehly trying to fill multiple staff roles, it is going to be hard for the Londoners to conclude so many high-profile signings at the same time.

Currently, in the process of finalising Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, it would be surprising, to say the least, to see Chelsea immediately turn their attention to De Jong.

The Blues’ midfield isn’t really a priority position this summer either. The likes of Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are all unlikely to leave, so it doesn’t really make a lot of sense for Thomas Tuchel to be targeting a midfielder that would be an expensive, and unnecessary, addition.
