Christian Eriksen dealt Man United hammer blow

Christian Eriksen is close to being unveiled as Manchester United’s second summer signing.

Leading transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently reported that pending some final legal checks, Eriksen is set to be officially announced as Erik ten Hag’s second signing following the recent arrival of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

However, despite the excitement of Eriksen’s impending arrival, the Denmark international is likely to be left gutted if Cristiano Ronaldo ends up departing Old Trafford.

Ronaldo is believed to be against spending next season in the Europa League and consequently, is now considering moving to a club competing in the more prestigious Champions League.

Former defender Rio Ferdinand recently leapt to the 37-year-old’s defence.

“You’re talking about Cristiano Ronaldo here!” the ex-England international said on his Five YouTube channel.

“I don’t understand how it’s a big story that Cristiano Ronaldo is not happy with the way things are at Man United. He can’t be. I wouldn’t be.”

Regardless of Ronaldo’s motives though, Eriksen won’t be best pleased to see the former Real Madrid star leave. According to the Express, a key factor in the 30-year-old’s decision to choose United as his next destination was the prospect of assisting the five-time Ballon d’Or winner – it was also a potential partnership that was discussed during earlier negotiations.

United appear to have finally admitted defeat in their quest to retain the Portuguese superstar and are now prepared to listen to offers (90min) – one club expected to launch a bid is Todd Boehly’s Chelsea.

  1. Stop using the “Europa League” excuse. Ronaldo knew about that last April. It’s more to do with United’s inability or seemingly unwillingness to spend the funds required to strengthen the squad to a point where a challenge for a trophy is possible let alone likely. Instead it looks to Ronaldo that he would again have to struggle on with most of the under performers of last season. Seriously! Would you stay in a job that has no interest or appears uninterested in really challenging to be the best.

    1. Absolutely bang on, Utd have no interest in winning trophies, they have no ambition. It’s been clear since Carrick retired that midfield was a priority. They were told by all and sundry they would not qualify for the champions league unless they bought a CDM but ignored the warnings and we’re STILL waiting. Utd had chance at Christmas to get a CDM and we wouldn’t be in this position but did NOTHING. Ronaldo was probably the reason some players would sign, you watch De Jong, Erikson, Anthony etc change their minds now.

  2. This is true really, but on the same breath he should have made the intention known early enough, it’s not like Fergie time when he was the target he has lost speed with age

  3. Ronaldo simply wants to set a champions league goal scoring record that no other person can break in the new future. I advice he takes it easy anyway. There is life after football. He’s exerting so much pressure on himself which might have an adverse effect at his old age. Besides, leaving Man utd now might affect his legendary status at the club.

  4. Ferdinand us bonkers. Ronaldo I’d only Interested in himself. He doesn’t care about United. He could have informed the club two months ago that he wants to leave. His timing sucks and proves he is not loyal to the badge. He is upset about taking a paycut. We will be better off without him. He’s in a situation now as nobody seems interested in making a bid. Let him sit on the bench.

    1. Clown of a fan – Ronaldo is only disappointed with the club’s willingness to challenge for titles. Now you go around believing everything the media portrays to make him look bad. Instead of focusing on the real issues being the owners –
how long has it been needing a CDM but to date nothing happens. Then you have the nerve to focus on someone who gives 100% everytime he is on the pitch

  5. Let him go!. And Man Utd should look for a brilliant forward to replace the mf ASAP. Ronaldo is shouting Europa league now but God is great cause he can go to a champions league club now and have out of the season injury 🚶‍♂️

  6. I am very happy for his decision. He needs to compete for prestigious trophies like the UCL and also compete to win the league.
Manchester United with the worst captain among the top teams in Europe top leagues cannot do anything this season and even the season that follows.
Manchester United is no longer a competitive team. With all the embarrassment last season, they are still not doing anything in the market.

  7. Ronaldo might have the fear of going behind in the Champions League but I feel that this is all about ambition. The club has shown little interest in ambition to get a winning team. These players have downed tools with all their managers. Let’s not even talk about the CDM role that has never been looked at. Clubs like pool and city have at least 2 specialist in that role, even the smaller teams have two. Why is united the only team in the prem without one yet still not looking for one. #glazersout

  8. Look am happy he’s leaving cis he’s the reason why we’re where we are , we will compete better than we did last season, we really don’t need him

  9. Not happy with his 25% wage cut due to not making champs league

Watch him stay If they waive that clause

  10. Just one confirmed signing…at man utd …for sure? Yet this clup knows very well what went wrong Last season…..
Someone like Cr7 can’t tolerate nonsense at Man utd…He already know… the inside story at Manchester United…
They promised the New coach heaven now see how they are dragging there transfers…Many players will fear coming to a club of failures
    ….

  11. Utd up till now has not but anyone yet the way last season ended up I utd to be active in the transfer market but he’ll no they do nothing only negotiating without buying I don’t blame Ronaldo for wanting to leave the midfield that was a problem last season they have refused to sign any midfielder they are waiting for dejong if he is not ready to join this summer they are even better midfielders inform of neves and other good midfielders around but utd had make any signing yet I wonder how coming will be even lesser teams are signing good players and utd are there watching do noting

  12. The real problem of man utd is the glazers the are so stingy the want to win but are not willing to spend. Spending on useless players like harry, actually harry is not to be playing for united he supposed to be playing with team like queens park rangers but imagine he is even the captain of united while players like ronaldo, David De gea. It high time we come back our former glory
