Manchester United determined to keep Cristiano Ronaldo despite Paulo Dybala links

It’s not the first time Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United have been thrown into doubt, with the 37-year-old reportedly looking to leave the club for a second time in his career.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are ‘determined’ to keep Ronaldo, who has one year left on his current deal at Old Trafford.

The problem for United is that Ronaldo is the only player yet to return to pre-season training – something Bruno Fernandes commented on before he returned to Carrington with his team-mates as planned this week. At the time, his Portuguese compatriot was seemingly unaware that Ronaldo would go AWOL.

This is the sort of unwanted noise new manager Erik ten Hag does not want having around the club ahead of his first season, so it will be interesting to see how he handles the situation after being previously led to believe Ronaldo wanted to stay at Old Trafford for another season.

Earlier this week, however, it emerged that Paulo Dybala was ready to evaluate offers from outside of Italy. The Juventus playmaker, who can play as a false-9, is available as a free agent this summer after running down his contract at Juventus.

Sky Italy journalist Angelo Mangiante even claims that negotiations between United and Dybala’s presentative are ongoing.

The MEN report adds: “United sources insist that there have been no talks with Dybala’s camp, however, with the focus still on keeping Ronaldo at the club next season.”
