Manchester United’s £51m bid for Antony short of Ajax’s asking price

Manchester United have reportedly submitted a bid to sign Ajax winger Antony.

It would make sense that the club would speed up the process to sign a forward, with Cristiano Ronaldo now wishing to leave, but United stress that the Portuguese superstar won’t be sold this summer.

According to James Robson, who covers Manchester United for Goal, the Red Devils have been pushed back on a £51 million bid for the Brazil international, with Ajax holding out for a more money.

The reporter adds that United are believed to be £20m short of Ajax’s valuation for their most prized asset.

Ajax apparently want close to £80m for Antony but the player’s agents are pressing his present club to accept a lower offer from United.

There’s clearly an agreement from Antony’s camp that Ajax are trying to price their client out of the market. The player has not shown any signs of going AWOL but that might change if things one drags out over the summer.

United know they can’t wait on Antony forever – but they do go back to sign Jadon Sancho after missing out on signing the English winger in 2020.

We’ve already added Tyrell Malacia to the squad this summer but we want to see the recruitment team make more moves before the pre-season tour!

Time is running out.
