Manchester United register interest in Atletico Madrid star

Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco has become the latest player to be linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, with the Old Trafford club dragging their heels in what could be their biggest summer in modern history.

Erik ten Hag, the new boss at Carrington, beings leading his first pre-season at the club on Monday, and no signings have been made thus far, with large focus being laid on securing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.

The departures of Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard, with Anthony Martial’s future at the club looking bleak and Mason Greenwood remaining unavailable for selection, have left United light in the wide areas.

Ajax winger Antony has been linked with a move to the club but now, Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco has been paired with a move.

That’s according to AS, via Sport Witness, who say that Carrasco’s €60m release clause has made him the subject of interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, with other clubs also sounding out the possibility of signing the Belgian international.

As per the report, Atletico manager Diego Simeone has asked the club not to sell his prized asset as he vows to keep him at the club. Subsequently, Carrasco is looking for a spike in wages due to the interest in him.

SN’s verdict…
It’s claimed in the report that Carrasco is not considering an exit as of now and that a new contract remains a possibility. The 28-year-old has just two years remaining on his current contract in the Spanish capital.

Usually, these kind of reports are indicators of contract negotiations. It would not come as a surprise to many people if Carrasco ends up signing a new four-year deal this summer.

United have done very little to register interest in Carrasco this summer and they are unlikely to target a left-sided winger, nevertheless.
